Hey Guys, I’m Bonnie.
I’m all about empowering your healthy lifestyle through food and fitness.
One of my favorite things about Carrot Bowl is the Dynamo interviews – highlighting the health journey of other people. Each of our stories empowers others and brings more kindness through understanding. Seriously awesome.
I also enjoy exploring ways to make a recipe healthy. Food is so central to your health! It changes the way you feel. It’s changed the way I feel.
Keeping myself active cures so many things for my soul. It makes my head clear, my body strong, and my desire to eat well continuous.
I want you to find a healthy lifestyle for yourself. One that is a sustainable. One that will fuel your mind, body, and soul; empower friends, family, and strangers; and help you see your real power. You are amazing. Remember that.
Here’s my own food story:
Fall of 2012 we decided to completely change the way we ate and thought of food. We were the family that made two dinners, one for us and one for the kids. Everything was dairy or crackers for snacks. Although we knew vegetables were important, they weren’t the focus.
We decided we needed a change. I put everything from the fridge and pantry on my counters. I bagged up everything that didn’t make the cut and gave it away. We were left with fruit, veggies, whole grains, lentils, beans, and a sudden desire to have a good blender! We ate pretty strict for 6 weeks: no oil, no added sugar, very little salt, no meat, and no dairy. We felt so good. For a family with 3 younger children I felt successful and that we needed to keep going.
Now we eat 90% vegan with 10% wiggle room. There’s sometimes foods v. always foods. It’s a great compromise to feel healthy yet not binge or guilt.
I’ve always been athletic, but haven’t always done what I do now.
I’ve been a runner since 2008. This was only possible through a foam roller. Read about my running journey. There’s nothing that gets me pumping the way running does. My goal for 2015 is to run a half marathon at a Boston qualifying time.
My husband and I decided to not get gym memberships and make our own home gym, kicking the cars out of the garage for good. Read about our home gym or try one of my workouts. I love muscle and although running eats your muscles, I’m committed to building it up as much as I can. I working towards 10 pull ups in a row.
Then in fall 2014 I started practicing yoga. Aahh…here’s the balance. Between running, cross training, and yoga I feel like I feed all different parts of my psyche. Yoga has been powerful for me. It’s hard and work and yet centering and clearing. The practice goes beyond the physical. I’m grateful to have found it.
